Dupont neighborhood spot Duke’s Grocery is expanding, opening a second East London-inspired gastropub in Woodley Park: Duke’s Counter. The casual eatery will open directly across from the National Zoo in the former Zoo Bar Café space later this year.

Managing partner Daniel Kramer says signatures like the Proper Burger, truffle mac, weekend brunch, and noon-to-seven happy hour will carry over, with a few new elements. A larger kitchen will boast a fryer for fish n’ chips on the eclectic chalkboard menu, and you can expect more draft beers alongside classic cocktails and wines. The team is also adding a kid’s menu for the many families visiting the zoo.

Once the restaurant is up and running you may find live jazz and entertainment, once a signature of Zoo Bar Café.
