Nancy Reagan had never seen the television series The A-Team, but when she heard that its star, Mr. T, was an antidrug crusader, she invited him to the White House. It was right before Christmas 1984.

There’s a photo essay in the December 1998 issue of Washingtonian that tells the story of the city’s last hundred years. Among the pics of street markets and 50s prom dresses, we found a section dedicated to the celebs that have come calling, like Elvis, Marilyn, and a snap of Nancy Reagan on the lap of fellow anti-drug crusader Mr. T.
