7 Fun Food Events Around DC This Weekend

Takoda Anniversary: This Thursday celebrate the one year anniversary of Takoda Restaurant & Beer Garden as well as National Beer Day. The Shaw watering hole will offer speciality beers all weekend beginning at 5 pm, and six new cocktails ($12) including a Cucumber Diablo with tequila, cucumber purée and jalapeños.

Dine Out for Life: Why not dine out for a good cause this Thursday? DC non-profit Food & Friends has partnered with over 70 restaurants around Washington in a fundraising effort to support meal delivery and nutrition services for those living with HIV/AIDS (the initiative is part of the international Dine out For Life campaign). Participating restaurants, which donate 25 to 100% of their sales, can be found online.

Concerts in the Park Party: Join Via Umbria in Georgetown on Thursday as they work to raise funds for a Georgetown concert series. The kickoff party for Concerts In The Parks begins at 6:30 pm and features a cheese counter, small bites, and an Italian spritz bar. Tickets can be purchased online, and cost $80 for Citizens Association of Georgetown members and $90 for non-members.

Union Market Drive-In: Union Market brings back their drive-in movie series on Friday beginning at 8 pm. Drivers and pedestrian guests can both enjoy a screening of The Royal Tenenbaums while chowing down on snacks delivered by The DC Rollergirls. Each film is family-friendly and will be projected on the market’s wall. The cost is $10 per car, or  free if you walk up and sit in the picnic area. Gates open at 6:30pm  and close at 8:30 pm. If you can’t make it this Friday, the monthly movie series continues until early November.

DC Wine Fest: DC Wine Fest goes down on Saturday at Longview Gallery. Guests can enjoy unlimited wine tastings from local and international wineries for $39 (and if you find a wine you like, full bottles can be purchased for a separate cost). Other highlights include 17 different varieties of rosé, and live music by local artists. Tickets can be purchased online for three separate windows: noon to 3 pm; 3:30  pm until 6:30 pm and 7 pm until 10 pm.

National Empanada Day: Celebrate National Empanada Day with $1 empanadas from Penn Quarter’s Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar. The restaurants hosts a Dollar Empanada Happy Hour from 4 until 7 pm with four types of empanadas, ranging from chicken to pulled pork. In addition to empanadas, Cuba Libre also offers $5 cocktails to complement the deal.

Town Hall Cookout: Get into the summer spirit at Glover Park’s Town Hall on Saturday, which launches a cookout series with a Nationals baseball theme. Guests can dig into unlimited burgers, BBQ chicken, mac and cheese, corn, wine, beer and more from 5 to 9 pm. There will also be giveaway prizes such as Nats tickets, signed memorabilia, and Town Hall koozies. Tickets are $30 per person and can be  purchased online.
