6 Fun Food Events Around DC This Weekend

Derby Parties: Can’t make it to the Kentucky Derby? Head to Jack Rose Dining Saloon, which hosts their 5th Annual Kentucky Derby Celebration & Viewing Party on Saturday from 3 to 7 pm. Guests can sip $9 Mint Juleps, $10 Bourbon Cocktails, and enjoy complimentary snacks such as cucumber sandwiches and Kentucky hot browns–all while enjoying the restaurant’s rooftop terrace and flat screen TV’s. Derby attire is encouraged and admission is free.

If bottomless frozen juleps and a hat contest are up your alley, head to Due South’s Derby Day on Saturday. The Navy Yard eatery throws a party with Southern food and drinks, door prizes, and commemorative glassware for the first $50 guests. Admission is free; unlimited and individual drinks are purchased separately.

Beer Dinner: This Saturday Red’s Table hosts a four-course beer dinner featuring bDC’s 3 Stars Brewing Company. Pairings include dishes like a smoked lamb shoulder matched with 3 Star’s White India Pale Ale ($65 per person). Dinner begins at 7:30 pm, and reservations can be made by calling 571-375-7755.

Mother’s Day Brunch Class: Get ready to show off your new culinary skills to mom with a special Mother’s Day Brunch Class from Casa Luca chef Erin Clarke on Saturday from 2p to 4 pm. Clarke will teach you to prepare an impressive breakfast of whipped sorbet with fruit, a ricotta bomboloni, and Spanish frittata. Pizza Party: Spend some fun family time on Saturday with a kid-friendly, hands-on pizza class and lunch at Glover Park’s Casolare . Beginning at 11 am, guests learn how to make thin-crust pizza from start to finish, and enjoy a pizza party lunch with salad and cookies . The two hour class is $25 for adults, $15 for children 12 and under, and free for those two years old and younger. Space for the class is limited, and tickets can be purchased online.
Free beer: This Saturday, head to Foggy Bottom for a (free!) beer-filled bash celebrating the tenth anniversary of Tonic at Quigley’s. The bar throws a party on their outdoor patio featuring complimentary Miller High Life ponies beginning at 7pm, and free tater tots from 6 to 8 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
