Himitsu, Timber Pizza Among Bon Appétit’s 50 Best New Restaurants in America

And no surprise: Pineapple & Pearls

Bon Appétit just released their 2017 list of the 50 Best New Restaurants in America, and Washington is well represented (no surprise from a magazine that named DC its Restaurant City of the Year in 2016). On the list: nouveau-Japanese gem Himitsu and delicious Petworth neighbor Timber Pizza Company, as well as Pineapple & PearlsAaron Silverman’s fine dining temple on Capitol Hill.

The 50 restaurants are divided by region and are all finalists for the “Hot 10” shortlist of the best new restaurants in America. Last year, Bad Saint won the #2 slot. This year, the Bon Appétit editors love Himitsu for its “imaginative Japanese fare that isn’t preoccupied with tradition” (and bathroom ode to Michelle Obama); Timber Pizza’s “blistered, bubbly, farmers’-market-produce-laden pizzas fresh from the ripping hot wood-burning oven”; and, well, just about everything at Pineapple & Pearls, which they dub an “an unforgettable celebratory meal.” (We agree.)

Check back on August 15, when the top 10 will be announced.
