The Wedding Day

Julia and Tony originally planned their wedding day for May 23, 2020, but say that by April, it was clear that an event for 140 people “was not going to happen.” So, they ended up postponing (four times to be exact) until they were able to finally throw the DC wedding of their dreams. “To us, the most important part of our wedding was to have a celebration with all of the people closest to us. We were on the same page about that, so the postponements were not tough decisions,” says Julia. “Aimee Dominick Events helped us navigate postponing a wedding a month beforehand when we already had RSVPs from guests in hand,” says Julia. When they were able to finally celebrate the big day, Julia tells us that nearly every detail was exactly as they had pictured, “just 1.5 years later than planned,” she adds.

The Wedding Design

For their big day, the couple says they were envisioning a romantic summer garden theme. “We wanted to mix classic and modern looks and we also wanted a fun vibe,” says Julia. DAR served as the perfect setting for bringing their theme to life. “We fell in love with Daughters of the American Revolution the moment we toured it. We loved the patio that overlooks the Washington monument, and the indoor space is historic and one of a kind. We love styles that combine old and new, and it was fun to take a classic space and bring in modern elements,” says Julia. She credits her vendor team for dressing up DAR’s blank space with big pops of teal, pink, and bright orange decor. “Frost Lighting created a beautiful light installation to go on the patio, and Flower Guild 1820 put together absolutely beautiful flower arrangements. It was incredible to see the space transformed for our wedding,” she says.

The Wedding Menu

As for their wedding-day menu, they started the evening with hors d’oeuvres, featuring grilled baby lamb chops, lobster medallion, and truffle mac and cheese lollipops. Then, for dinner, they opted for a family-style Italian feast crafted by Spilled Milk. “We started with burrata boards and had passed dishes of spring pea risotto, tomato basil cavatelli, stuffed zucchini with smoked ricotta, and Italian-style greens. Guests also enjoyed braised short ribs and pan-roasted sea bass,” says Julia. Following dinner, an Art Deco-inspired cake confection was cut and served, along with tasty late-night snacks, such as truffle sliders, truffle tater tots, and mini boozy milkshakes. Yum!
