A Sweetheart Deal in Romantic St. Michaels

What’s special: Owner/innkeeper Debra Alms, and her partner, Richard P. Beavers, owner of RBCI construction company in Easton, took a neglected waterfront bed-and-breakfast and totally restored it. But the historic mid-1840’s shipbuilder’s home still retains a Victorian ambiance thanks to its antiques, rugs, chandeliers, and artifacts. Boat- and water-themed artwork pays homage to Edward Willey, who originally built the house adjacent to his boatyard. The ensuite bathrooms in the six guest suites have marble floors, jetted tubs, and showers, and one even has a large copper tub. Outdoors, guests can sip wine while sitting by the fire pit and enjoying water views and local wildlife—green herons, mallards, ospreys, and bald eagles. Breakfast is an homage to the Eastern Shore created by Executive Chef Patrick Mahoney. It may include orange juice, toast with caviar, bacon, house-made biscuit, and two fried green tomatoes topped with large crab cakes and a poached egg finished with Hollandaise sauce.
