Here Are Some of the Best Free Fitness Classes Around DC This Week: February 20 – 26

Dance classes, roller skating, and a Black History Month walk and run.

Monday
Combine a cardio workout with Afrobeat music during this Afro-Fit dance class at the Dance Institute of Washington. The 60 minute class kicks off at 7:30 PM.

Thursday
Learn self defense in a course influenced by Systema, a Russian martial art. The class at Maryland Systema in Takoma Park takes place from 7:30 to 8:30 PM.

Friday
Strap on your roller skates and join this Friday night skate session. The 12-mile route is mostly flat with long stretches of uninterrupted gliding. The ride starts at Freedom Plaza at 7 PM and goes down to Hains Point.

Get moving at an energetic dance class with an emphasis on body positivity. The class begins at 1:15 PM in the Louis Stokes Library at Howard University.

Pacers Running is organizing a walk and run in honor of Black History Month. A volunteer from the DC State Historic Preservation Office will point out landmarks along the two-mile walking route, and a four-mile run caters to runners of all levels. Both routes start and end at Franklin Hall, where participants will get a free shirt and a complimentary mimosa.
