Logan Tavern. 1423 P St., NW.
Bottomless brunch is no longer limited to the weekend. It’s now an all-day, every day affair under the new owners of Logan Tavern in Logan Circle. They’re also doing a daily happy with cocktails under $10 from 3 to 6 PM and 9 PM to close.
EatWell DC sold its 20-year-old casual American eatery in August to Daoud Harris, a catering chef who previously worked at Logan Tavern’s (now-closed) sister restaurant The Pig, and former hotel sales manager Ashley Blake. The couple previously operated Tasting Room Georgetown—a “speakeasy”-style venue hidden inside Italian restaurant Flavio—and Sliced & Brewed, which served jumbo slices, burgers, and barbecue in Shaw.
Harris, who just turned 31, says he initially thought EatWellDC owner David Winer was simply looking for a chef when he reached out about taking over the restaurant. In fact, Winer has been closing and selling his restaurants, which included Grillfish, the Charles, Commissary, and others. With the help of family investors, Harris and Blake were able to buy the business. “We were very gracious and humble to even have the opportunity,” says Blake. “David said, ‘I’d rather sell it to someone that I care about,’ and that was so amazing.” They’ve retained most of the staff.
Some Logan Tavern staples like the ginger calamari, buffalo shrimp, and burger remain, though Harris says he is now grinding brisket and chuck daily for the patties. His new, condensed menu includes a “charred summer pasta” with cherry tomatoes, spinach, and basil oil, plus a “from the grill” section including spiced steak kabobs and a crispy-skinned spatchcock-style chicken with a garlic-white wine reduction and confit cherry tomatoes.
Taco Tuesdays, a favorite at Tasting Room Georgetown, will also make a comeback with Korean short rib and crispy shrimp with spicy chipotle jicama slaw options. (Look for an all-you-can-eat taco deal going forward.) The cocktail menu has been updated with a cucumber-infused gin and tonic and a rosemary Paloma in addition to an espresso martini and other classics. The restaurant is also offering private mixology and wine classes every week.
As for that bottomless brunch, it’s $22 for unlimited mimosas and bloody marys. Pair the drinks with buttermilk biscuits and gravy or steak and eggs. A fall menu is in the works, and Harris plans to introduce some items that were popular with his catering clientele, like parfaits with housemade granola, as well as new sandwiches like a French dip with roast beef sliced to order. While Logan Tavern severed ties with food delivery apps under EatWell DC, the new owners have brought back takeout and delivery.
The restaurant opens at 11:30 AM on weekdays and 10 AM on weekends but the owners are looking to expand to breakfast, beginning at 8 AM, going forward. They hope to also get to approval for later hours as well.
Harris and Blake haven’t made any major aesthetic changes for now, beyond a deep clean and some patio refreshes, but they are looking into converting the restaurant’s 60-seat private dining area into a separate wine bar and market in the future.
