James Beard Foundation Announces 2012 Nominees

The short list of contenders in this year’s culinary-world Oscars was announced today. Here are the locals chefs, restaurants, and beverage pros in the running.

JBF winners will be announced on May 7.

So, this is exciting. The James Beard Foundation tweeted the finalists for its 2012 awards this afternoon. Below are the locals who will be competing on May 7–winners are announced at a glitzy gala that will be emceed by Alton Brown. 

Winners of the JBF Book, Broadcast & Journalism Awards, meanwhile, will be announced on May 4. Among the finalists is Washingtonian’s own Todd Kliman, who was nominated for an essay he wrote for Lucky Peach.

Washington-area Finalists:

Best Chef–Mid-Atlantic: Cathal Armstrong (Restaurant Eve), Johnny Monis (Komi), Peter Pastan (Obelisk), Vikram Sunderam (Rasika).

Best New Restaurant: Fiola.
