Fans of the NYC rock band Interpol and/or the ’90s Brit shoe-gazing act Swervedriver might be interested in checking out Magnetic Morning, the side project of Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino and Swervedriver lead singer Adam Franklin. The band will play at the Rock and Roll Hotel on Friday in support of its album, A.M., set for release later this month. Featured in this week’s playlist is a song from the band’s 2007 EP, “Cold War Kids . . .”
. . .Which just happens to be name of the California band playing at the 9:30 Club on Saturday. If you couldn’t land tickets to the sold-out show and feel, um, like you’ve been left hanging out to dry, we recommend Craigslist. Or. . .
. . . Skipping the show altogether and checking out newcomers the Postelles at DC9 on Sunday. The band’s pop songs have a decidedly old-school feel to them, and it doesn’t hurt that the Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr. was involved in some of the producing. Just don’t call them the next big thing.
Swedish pop singer Lykke Li is also in town Sunday night, playing at the Black Cat with the NYC outfit Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson. Across the Potomac, audience members will be popping bottles all night and whatever (else) they like with T.I. and T-Pain at the Patriot Center.
Monday, Mechanicsville native Jason Mraz (and his ubiquitous fug hats) makes a homecoming of sorts when he takes the stage at DAR Constitution Hall.
