Things to Do

Listen Up! Thanksgiving Edition

This week, Listen Up!, our music column, celebrates Thanksgiving a bit early with a playlist of songs about—what else?—giving, thanking, and family. Tell us what you think of the playlist and leave suggestions in the comments.

Oh, Thanksgiving. A time to gather with family, express gratitude, and watch the Charlie Brown special on TV—or think about the destruction of the country’s indigenous people, if that’s more your thing.

Regardless of your stance, the holiday is just days away and we couldn’t think of a better way to observe it than by compiling a list of songs with thankful messages. Below, you’ll find obvious choices like Dido’s “Thank You” and Ray Davies’s “Thanksgiving Day.” Warm, fuzzy songs? We’ve got “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge and Andrew Gold’s “Thank You For Being a Friend.” (Golden Girls, anyone?) But we also tried being a little creative, throwing in some Korn and (the) Cranberries into the mix because, well, you can’t survive Thanksgiving on turkey alone, now, can you?

Think we forgot some great songs? Leave us your thoughts in the comments and we’ll add your suggestions to our playlist.

This playlist is no longer available. Sorry, folks!
