Emmy Award-winning actor and director Charles S. Dutton tells the story of his life, from growing up on the streets of Baltimore to his arrival on Broadway, in his one-man show, From Jail to Yale: Serving Time on Stage, at the Kennedy Center. 7:30 (also March 28). Buy tickets ($50 to $100) at the Kennedy Center’s site. All proceeds benefit the Duke Ellington School for the Arts.

Wednesday, March 30
Canadian folk group the Wailin’ Jennys is performing at the Birchmere. The all-female trio’s popularity has been growing steadily since the release of its acclaimed third album, Firecraker. 7:30; get tickets ($30) at Ticketmaster.

Thursday, March 31
Not precisely nightlife but certainly a great excuse to play hooky from work: Baseball is back! Head to Nationals Park for this season’s home opener against the Atlanta Braves. Some tickets are still available at the team’s Web site.
