Where & When: What to Do Tonight

The best happy hour all week—hosted by The Washingtonian!

HAPPY HOUR: The only place to be tonight is our first happy hour of the 2011 LivingSocial Best of Washington season! Enjoy complimentary appetizers and drinks on the rooftop at Whitlow’s on Wilson and kick off The Washingtonian’s upcoming Best of Washington celebration in style. There’s no cover for happy hour, and guests will be able to purchase discounted tickets for the main event, which takes place July 13. The happy hour is from 6 to 8:30; free.

THEATER: Studio Theatre’s latest production, Venus in Fur, opens tonight. The play, which depicts a director auditioning female leads for his new play, is a riff on Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s novella Venus in Furs. The New York Times called the play “good, kinky fun.” Through July 3; buy tickets ($44 to $65) at Studio’s Web site.

DJ: Eight of DC’s top DJs and music experts battle it out to create the best playlist as part of the Vitamin Water Uncapped Live festival. They’ll each choose a selection of songs and be judged on how each tune builds on the previous one. At 2217 14th St., NW; 8 PM. Free.

DISCUSSION: Pick up some tips for perfecting matzo-ball soup and more at a talk by cookbook author Joan Nathan (Quiches, Kugels, and Couscous) and chef Spike Mendelsohn. They’ll be speaking at the National Archives about Jewish food, its cultural significance, and how to prepare it in conjunction with the upcoming exhibit “What’s Cooking, Uncle Sam?” The talk is at 7 PM; free.
