If there's an upside to this week's brutal heat, it's that it reminds us we're just that much closer to the start of the 2011 Fort Reno Summer Concert Series, the DC institution that celebrates the most promising local rock bands amid a backdrop of picnicking families and ice cream trucks.

As noted on Fort Reno's Facebook page overnight, this summer's first show has been set for Monday, June 27, and will feature local punk outfits Beasts of No Nation and Railsplitter, plus an apparently un-Googleable group called Valley Tours.

Fort Reno master of ceremonies Amanda MacKaye tweets that the full schedule will be released soon, with concerts every Monday and Thursday through mid-August. For those of you new to Fort Reno, don't go without knowing the rules: Blankets, lawn chairs, food, kids, and dogs are all welcome, but alcohol and glass containers of any kind will not be tolerated. Shows start promptly at 7PM, and end by 9:30. We'll be sure to update when the full schedule is released.
