The New Guard: John Stanton

John Stanton

Washington Bureau Chief, BuzzFeed

The website BuzzFeed is still long on goofy photos of cats and celebrities caught doing embarrassing things, but it’s hoping to become a go-to news organization with serious political coverage. Its 38-year-old Washington bureau chief, John Stanton, made his name covering Congress for Roll Call and now oversees a bright team of newbies and veteran DC reporters, from Zeke Miller at the White House to former New York Times reporter Rebecca Berg on Capitol Hill. The Times has even begun collaborating with BuzzFeed, which could take political coverage at both outlets to new heights.
