Sweetgreen Opens in Silver Spring Monday

Customers pick how much they will pay until 4 PM.

In the past few months, Silver Spring welcomed an outpost of beer bistro Scion along with the newest location of Pete’s Apizza.

Monday, July 15, the popular salad, soup, and juice chain Sweetgreen brings a healthy new option to town. Until 4 PM on opening day, customers at the Georgia Avenue restaurant pay as much as they want/can for salads such as my personal favorite, the Guacamole Greens, with avocado, tortilla chips, cherry tomatoes, lime, and onions. Proceeds benefit Freshfarm Markets.

This is the 19th location for Sweetgreen, which debuted in 2007. Having already expanded to Philadelphia and Boston, owners—and Georgetown alums—Nicolas Jammet, Nathaniel Ru, and Jonathan Neman plan to unveil their 20th store in the NoMad Hotel in Manhattan this July.

Sweetgreen. 8517 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring; 301-244-5402. Open daily from 10:30 to 10.
