Education reform was a key issue in the DC mayoral election. Even Washingtonians who don't have children under age 18 are wondering what's next after the likely departure of schools chancellor Michelle Rhee. No matter what happens, there are lots of volunteer opportunities to improve public education—even if it's just one child at a time.
If you're looking for a place to volunteer, or trying to figure out the right level of involvement, this list of education-oriented groups may be a place to start. We spoke with organization leaders about their purpose, capabilities, and needs for general volunteers and experts in particular fields.
