More Good Jewelry Shops
In July’s Best of Washington issue, you’ll find a list of my 11 favorite jewelry shops in the area. Here are five more gems.
Charleston Alexander Diamond Importers, 7845 Wisconsin Ave., 301-951-6200; and 5924 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, 703-931-6200. Diamond prices are very competitive, and attention is paid here to a gem’s cut—critical for sparkle. Generous trade-up policies also keep customers happy.
Mia Gemma, 933 F St., NW; 202-393-4367. Visiting Europeans love this fine jeweler for its sophisticated artisan innovations. While some lines are local, such as Judy Bliss’s sculptural, edgy designs and Emma Villedrouin’s glowing gold, the foreign flair is distinct. All of the one-of-a-kind or limited-edition pieces are handmade.
Midtown Jewelers, 11990 Market St., Reston; 703-707-9663. Affordable lines from high-end designers such as Charles Krypell and handcrafted works by Beny Sofer make this a good bet for the young affianced. Mixed in are out-of-the-ordinary items, such as local designer Natalie Ziegler’s gem-strung necklaces.
Secrète, 10227 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda; 301-530-7892. Original, high-end jewelry is the draw here; eye-catchers include an Art Deco platinum diamond bracelet and a blue-topaz-kunzite-and-diamond necklace in rose gold. Browse the many loose stones for a custom creation or the ample inventory of one-of-a-kind pieces. Owner Elyahu Araki can also give new life to old heirlooms.
