Construction is fraught with details, but Rand employees say they’re trusted to make decisions. “They don’t micromanage,” says senior superintendent Ed Zeher of the leadership. “It almost feels like I’m working for myself.” Rand—which builds out interior spaces for such clients as Politico, Amazon, and Deloitte—knows another way to staffers’ hearts: It caters subsidized lunches four days a week and stocks the kitchen with snacks.
