Where & When: What to Do Tonight

Mind-bending free films, a Rock and Roll Hotel trivia night, and underground jazz staples Ken Vandermark and Tim Daisy

Catch a free screening of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind during the Black Cat’s “Mind Eraser Double Feature.”

Wednesday, August 3
FILM:
Ever wish you could erase your past? Well it’s not gonna happen, but you can still live vicariously through the Black Cat’s “Mind Eraser Double Feature.” First up is Academy Award-winner Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, a film about an estranged couple (Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet) who has had each other erased from their memories. Next up is Total Recall, about a construction worker (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who’s either the victim of a failed memory implant or a freedom fighter from Mars. Mind eraser cocktails will be available for $5. Free; Doors open at 8:30 PM.

TRIVIA: Calling all smarty pants—stop by the Rock and Roll Hotel for an evening of drinks and friendly competition. Presented by Trivia Kings, the game will feature ten 15-minute rounds. Enjoy half-price burgers and $3 rails. Free; 7:30 PM. Plus, What’s the Deal will be hosting a happy hour from 6 to 8 PM. RSVP here for a free flavored Stoli drink.

JAZZ: Saxophonist Ken Vandermark and percussionist Tim Daisy have been staples in the underground jazz scene since 2001, and they’re dropping by Twins Jazz for a night of soulful melodies. You can sample one of Vandermark’s collaborations here. Tickets ($15) can be purchased at the event Web site. 8 and 10 PM.

DOGGY HAPPY HOUR: The dog days of summer are upon us, so why not cool off at Hotel Helix’s Doggy Happy Hour? Humans can sip on specialty cocktails, including $5 cosmos and $3 Yuengling. Filtered water and assorted dog treats will be available for four-legged patrons. One dollar from every specialty drink will be donated to the Shaw Dog Park. 5 to 7 PM.
