Thursday, June 5: The Hirshhorn Museum (Independence Ave. and Seventh St., SW; 202-633-1000) begins its free “Summer Camp” film series tonight in the Ring Auditorium with the 1955 movie It Came From Beneath the Sea. The sci-fi film deals with a mutated giant octopus threatening San Francisco. 7 PM.
Set in a dilapidated Belfast pub, the play Closing Time by Owen McCafferty follows five characters who turn to the watering hole as an escape from the reality happening outside. The Keegan Theatre production is at Theatre on the Run (3700 Four Mile Run Dr., Arlington; 703-892-0202). Tickets are $20; 8 PM.

Friday, June 6: Missed out on our interview with local musician Thao Nguyen? Now’s your chance to see what we and everyone else is raving about. Thao and her band, the Get Down Stay Down, are opening Rilo Kiley’s show at the 9:30 Club (815 V St., NW; 202-265-0930). The show is sold out, but there are still plenty of reasonable offers on Craigslist.
Fireworks! Carnival rides! Food! Bands that create videos involving synchronized dancing on treadmills! It’s all at this weekend’s Celebrate Fairfax Festival (12000 Government Center Pkwy., Fairfax; 703-324-3247). This evening, OK Go will play at 8. The festival goes from 6 to midnight; Saturday it’s 10 AM to midnight, Sunday 10 to 6. $10.
It may sound like a political scandal, but Scootergate is actually a rally all about scooter riders, live music, and lots of fun. Riders from all over the East Coast convene in DC for rides around town and other activities, including a concert tonight at the Rock and Roll Hotel. The Pietasters will be playing with a few other groups, and some DJs will be spinning. 8 PM; $17; buy tickets here.
This evening marks the kickoff of Capital Jazz Fest—three days of jazz music at Merriweather Post Pavilion (10475 Little Patuxent Pwy., Columbia), with names like Brian McKnight, Roberta Flack, and Diane Reeves performing. Get a full line-up, ticket prices, and times here.
Saturday, June 7: Either pull out your bike helmet or cover your eyes: The DC version of World Naked Bike Ride takes place today at 4, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. If you want to take part, the route starts on the Vermont Avenue side of McPherson Square and heads the White House and around the Capitol.
The godfather of go-go, Chuck Brown, plays an outdoor show tonight under the stars at Carter Barron Amphitheatre (16th St. and Colorado Ave., NW). Brown takes the stage at 7:30; purchase tickets ($20) here.
The Dupont-Kalorama Museums Consortium holds its annual Museum Walk Weekend today and Sunday, offering free entrance to museums, food, and live entertainment. Today you can visit the museums from 10 to 4. Check out a listing and map of participating museums here.
Sunday, June 8: It’ll be a rollicking party this afternoon at the Louisiana Swamp Romp at Wolf Trap. The concert features Cajun music, zydeco, jazz, blues, and more, with plenty of bands playing all day long. The fun starts at 2. Buy tickets ($25) here.
Ever wonder what happened to Everclear, that ’90s rock band? Well, neither did we, really, but its song “Santa Monica” is still one of our favorite summer tunes. Everclear plays a free concert today at the Crystal City Business Improvement District’s Crystal Rocks concert (2200 Crystal Dr. between 23rd and 20th sts., Arlington). Performances go from 2 to 6, though Everclear won’t play until later in the afternoon.
