The longtime Los Angeles Times reporter James Mann will discuss The Rebellion of Ronald Reagan: A History of the End of the Cold War at Politics and Prose at 7. Mann depicts how President Reagan overcame opposition from much of his own administration and conservative constituencies to bring the Cold War to a close
Tuesday, March 17
The Seattle-based food writer Molly Wizenberg, author of the blog Orangette, will be at Borders at 18th and L streets, Northwest, at 12:30 to discuss her book, A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes From My Kitchen Table. From her mother’s pound cake to the eggs she cooked for her father in the weeks before his death, Wizenberg recounts a life where food and memories are intimately intertwined.
Wednesday, March 18
The National Portrait Gallery is screening A Sense of Wonder at 7 in the McEvoy Auditorium as part of the Environmental Film Festival. The film, directed by Christopher Monger, tells of Rachel Carson’s love for the natural world and her fight to defend it.
Thursday, March 19
National Geographic’s Rhythm Road series presents a night of jazz with Helen Sung and NuGenerations at 6 followed by the Chris Byars Quartet at 7:15.
Friday, March 20
As part of Women’s History Month, the Smithsonian American Art Museum will screen the documentary The Sculpture of Louise Nevelson: Constructing a Legacy. Following the short film, artist Jessica Stockholder, winner of the 2007 Lucelia Artist Award, will discuss Nevelson’s influence on her own work with curator Joanna March. The event starts at 7 in the McEvoy Auditorium.
Saturday, March 21
John Hanhardt, curator for film and media arts at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, will discuss how artists explore narrative and image through film and video art at 2 in the Freer Gallery’s Meyer Auditorium.
Sunday, March 22
The Egidius Kwartet will perform in the National Gallery of Art’s West Garden Court at 6:30. The group will perform music by Byrd, Dowland, Gastoldi, and other composers in honor of the “Pride of Place: Dutch Cityscapes of the Golden Age” exhibit.
