Things to Do

What to Do This Week: October 1 to 4

Drink seasonal beers, watch the presidential debate, and take in some art at the (e)merge fair.

October means pumpkin ales and other fall-flavored beers are showing up on menus around the area. Photograph courtesy of Shutterstock.

Monday, October 1

Happy October, and welcome to decorative gourd season. If all the pumpkin spice stuff
at Starbucks hasn’t been enough to get you in the mood, all three locations of Pizzeria
Paradiso
have replaced their entire draft beer selections (42 at each restaurant)
with autumny beers. That means Oktoberfest, pumpkin, and harvest ales, and hard cider.
Yum. They’ll also be debuting a pumpkin pesto, bacon, and Parmesan pizza.

Tuesday, October 2

The Governator’s book discussion at the Hamilton has unfortunately gone hasta la vista,
baby, but you can drown your sorrows at the
Daily Grill’s newly renovated bar. This week, it’s hosting all-night happy hours, which means
you can grab burgers, crabcakes, Parmesan truffle
frites, and more for less than $5 a pop; drink from an all-new draft beer selection; and
sip top-notch martinis. 4 PM to close.

Wednesday, October 3

DC will stop whatever it’s doing to watch the first
presidential debate—but if you don’t have a spot already lined up, here are two options: For Dems, the
Women’s National Democratic Club is hosting a party with $5 beers and wine, free appetizers,
and lots of networking opportunities. For Republicans, your best bet is probably Glover
Park’s Mason Inn. Free. 6:30 PM.

Thursday, October 4

The
(e)merge Art Fair at the Capitol Skyline Hotel kicks off Thursday and features more than 150 international
artists from 24 countries. They take over three levels of the hotel with performance
art, installations, paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media pieces. For Thursday’s
kickoff party, Thievery Corporation’s
Eric Hilton will deejay by the hotel’s pool. Don’t fall in. Tickets ($45) are available online.
7 PM.
