LEARN (AND LAUGH): Ever want to know everything you possibly could about the word “moon?” You could Wiki
it and read for hours, or you could head to the first-ever DC
Encyclopedia Show at Woolly Mammoth, where a handful of comedians, experts, and slam poets dissect
a different aspect of the word “moon.” Performers include Patrick Washington from
Russell Simmons’s
Def Poetry; Roger Launius, senior curator of space history at the Air and Space Museum; and
Gayle Danley, who has won a bunch of national and international slam poetry competitions.
Tickets ($15) are available through Woolly Mammoth’s website. 8 PM.
CHRISTMAS: It’s finally December, so you now have free rein to eat all the peppermint bark you
want, hang mistletoe, and blast Mariah Carey Christmas songs all day. If John Boehner
in a Santa suit (I don’t think this will actually happen) sounds like fun, head to
the
US Capitol tree-lighting ceremony right after work. Free. 5 PM.
Wednesday, December 5
CELEBRATE: Prohibition was repealed 79 years ago Wednesday. Celebrate the way they did back then:
with lots of booze.
Jack Rose will have Prohibition-priced cocktails (that means 50 cents) and a four-course tasting
dinner for just $20. After that, head upstairs, where for another $20, you’ll also
get bottomless Champagne and specials on cigars. Wear your flapper gear.

Thursday, December 6
PARTY: Wear your favorite ugly Christmas sweater or your best hillbilly attire (preferably
Christmas-themed) to the Georgia State Society’s
Rednecks and Turtlenecks party, featuring a full open bar with specialty drinks from Georgia and North Carolina.
