Fashion for a Cause: Watch Goodwill’s Fashion Show Online and Then Bid

If you weren’t on the invitation list for New York’s Fashion Week, never fear: Another fashion show closer to home was held September 12 to benefit a worthwhile cause, Goodwill of Greater Washington. Not only that, but you can watch excerpts from the event online and bid on the dresses, suits, and separates modeled on the catwalk. This was Goodwill of Greater Washington’s third annual fashion show but its first Webcast. The Fashion of Goodwill Virtual Runway Show was created to further Goodwill’s mission of providing job training to people with disadvantages and disabilities. As Brendan Hurley, a Greater Washington Goodwill vice president, says in the video, the show also aims to change the perception of Goodwill from a “dirty old thrift store” to a high-quality clothing retailer.

All of the dresses, suits, and separates in the show had been donated to one of the area’s nine Goodwill stores. Tu-Anh, a fashion designer and image consultant, tweaked the clothes to ensure that they were runway-ready. Click here to see scenes from the catwalk. Personally, I’m in love with this 1960s green minidress.

Goodwill has joined with eBay to auction off items from the show. The online auction begins Wednesday, September 19, at noon here. Click here to see the items you can bid on.

Proceeds benefit Goodwill of Greater Washington’s job-training programs.
