Things to Do

Where & When: This Week in Washington Nightlife

What to do every night of this week for fun.

Monday, September 29: The Sant Ocean Hall Opens
If you didn’t get to check it out on its opening weekend, make time in your schedule to see the new Sant Ocean Hall at the National Museum of Natural History. The Sant Ocean Hall is grand in scale, featuring some 674 specimens, more than 300 fossils, 12 unique exhibit sections, and a 1,500-gallon tank with more than 70 marine species. See more photos and details here.

Tuesday, September 30: Half-Priced Belgian Beer
One of our favorite happy hours falls on a Tuesday at U Street restaurant Bohemian Caverns. From 6–11 pm, the half-price Belgian beers include everything from Delirium Tremens to Lucifer to a variety of Chimay beers. There are bottles and drafts; expect most drinks to run you between $3 and $5 after the half-price discount.

Wednesday, October 1: Wine and Movies
E Street Cinema joins up with the Washington Wine Academy to hold wine tastings in the movie theater’s lobby before film screenings. This event will be held the first Wednesday of each month, and the sampling of eight wines (along with a spread of cheese and fruit) will run you $16.50. 7:30 to 9:30 PM.

Thursday, October 2: Duke Ellington Jazz Fest
The real fun of the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival starts this Sunday with its day-long jazz celebration on the Mall, but the festival has plenty of free and great music throughout the week. Tonight, try the Bar J Wranglers from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, who deliver country-tinged, jazzy harmonies. They’re at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage at 6 PM.
