Environmentally-friendly brew, an open-air film, and an art workshop on the agenda

Enjoy $1 off all draft beers at Meridian Pint’s GreenDrinksDC Happy Hour. Christopher O’Brien, director of sustainability at American University and author of Fermenting Revolution: How to Drink Beer and Save the World, is the guest speaker and will discuss how local pubs and microbreweries are going green by using renewable energy and eliminating waste. Recently opend, Meridian Pint is a bar and restaurant dedicated to environmental sustainability. Free; 6 to 9.

Watch a movie under the stars at U Street’s Harrison Field, where The Soloist is playing at sundown (around 8:30; gates open at 7). The 2009 film features Jamie Foxx, who plays a mentally ill homeless man with extraordinary musical talent, and Robert Downey Jr., a struggling Los Angeles journalist who befriends Foxx and finds inspiration to write again. The Harrison Field Under the Stars series of documentaries and films feature stories about accomplished musicians and celebrates the musical history and diversity of U Street’s neighborhood. The first 100 people receive free popcorn. Complimentary valet bike parking is provided by Washington Area Bicyclist Association. All donations benefit the Friends of Harrison Recreation Center. Get in touch with your artistic side as Brentwood Arts Exchange at Gateway Arts Center hosts an acrylic-painting workshop with the San Francisco-based expert Michele Theberge.
