Where & When: What to Do Tonight

Beat the Monday blues with Star Trek and speed dating.

Befuddled by modern American art? You can get some clarity—for three minutes at least—at Artist Speed Dating at Poste Moderne Brasserie, where six well-known Washington artists answer questions about how and why they create their art in short one-on-one sessions with participants. Artists include Zoë Charlton, Mary Early, J.J. McCracken, and Maggie Michael. The event is presented by Arlington Arts Center, the Pink Line Project, and the exhibit “Art Scouts”. Tickets are $5. A happy hour starts at 5; the event runs from 6 to 8.

All Trekkies are welcome this evening at Arlington’s Crystal Screen outdoor film festival, where Star Trek: Generations is playing. There are also costume contests and activities with the Washington Shakespeare Company. Rain or shine. Free entry and parking. 8:30.

Hudson Restaurant & Lounge in DC’s Dupont Circle is hosting a cocktail party to kick off a weeklong fundraiser for the Gulf Restoration Network, an organization that has been working to clean up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Food at the event includes oysters, Gulf shrimp, and bouillabaisse-style mussels. Three New Orleans-inspired cocktails are also on the menu. 6 to 8.
