The Shuttle Flyover: Our Favorite Pictures

We asked, and you responded—your photos of this morning’s “Discovery” flyover, plus a few of our own.

The space shuttle Discovery has landed at its retirement home in Virginia, but before touching down at Dulles airport the veteran orbital vehicle, riding bareback on a 747, did a victory lap or two this morning in the air above Washington.

We asked you for your pictures of the morning low-level flyover, and you sent them in. We also sent our own photographer, Erik Uecke, and videographer, Melissa Romero, to the rooftop of the Kennedy Center. Here’s a sampling of your photos, plus some of ours.

Discovery, the oldest and most flown shuttle, will go on permanent public view at the Udvar-Hazy Center of the Air & Space Museum on Friday morning.
