It’s officially less than one week until the beginning of fall, which means that in addition to crunchy leaves, cardigans, and pumpkin-spiced everything, football season is back. While you can depend on Washingtonian for roundups of the best places to get your drink on during games, Budget Travel has a nice list of America’s best college-football towns, from Austin to Oxford. For those who’d rather just pretend it’s still summer, tickets to the final Nats games of the season have been reduced to $9 for seats in the upper infield gallery through September 29.
Air France, one of Europe’s biggest airlines, has a sale for September and October, offering one-way flights from Washington to Paris, Madrid, Rome, and more starting at $301 (taxes and fees included). And Virgin Vacations is still offering its six-night trip to London, including flights, accommodation, breakfast, and all surcharges, for $649 (book by September 22 for travel through February). Just remember it’s “autumn” over there. Or automne, otoño, or autunno, depending on where you go.
Not far enough away? The Vienna-based company Space Adventures announced this week that it’s partnering with Boeing to provide commercial flights into space. Seven people have gone into orbit since the company launched in 1998, including Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté and American businessman Dennis Tito, who paid $20 million in 2001 for the trip. Space Adventures hasn’t yet announced the cost for its next batch of trips.
It might be a bit soon to start thinking about Turkey Day, but Kimpton Hotels is rewarding early birds with special rates if you book Washington rooms for Thanksgiving and Christmas (November 18 to 19 and December 16 to 30).
