Travel News: Giddyup Edition

Entice relatives to Washington for the holidays, escape to Winnipeg, and try the world’s most uncomfortable-looking airplane seats

Sure, summer’s technically over, but if you’re thinking of taking one last beach getaway, now is the time. US Airways has slashed round-trip tickets from Washington to Fort Lauderdale—they’re now $83. The deal is good for travel Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday through November 6.

Holiday travel can be brutal, so if you’d rather have the relatives come to you this year, here’s a deal to entice them: On select weekends in November and December, the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill is booking rooms for $89 a night. Dates include November 25 through 28 and December 3 through 5, 10 through 11, 17 through 19, and 24 through 26.

For the procrastinators out there, United’s got a deal on last-minute flights for this weekend, cutting fares on flights leaving Washington Saturday to as low as $59 each way. The deal applies to dozens of routes ranging from Albuquerque to Winnipeg, so if you want to escape, this is your chance.

Finally, it looks as if airlines have decided their passengers aren’t uncomfortable enough. On display this week at the Aircraft Interiors Expo Americas was the SkyRider, a saddle-like seat that shaves about nine inches from your already-cramped leg room. It’s a long way from getting official approval, though, so stretch out while you still can.
