The holidays are fast approaching—before things get hectic, you can steal away with these getaway deals.

Romance and Culture

What’s special: Located in the Brandywine Valley, this B&B is nine miles north of Longwood Gardens and close to Winterthur Museum, Hagley Museum, and the Brandywine River Museum. Among Hamanassett’s charms are a complimentary full breakfast including a fruit dish (such as praline bananas) and a savory main course (eggs Florentine with hollandaise, for example) served on a table set with antique silver, crystal, and china. Breakfast is next to a fire or, weather permitting, on the terrace. Also included: free wi-fi, fresh-baked cookies, a refrigerator filled with juices and soft drinks, and a basket of snacks. Suite Life

What’s special: This sprawling property offers a full menu of activities. Guests can golf on one of three championship courses, play tennis, go bicycling, be pampered at the spa, work out at the health club featuring more than 30 cardiovascular machines, swim indoors, or take a 90-minute Segway tour of the resort. (All except the health club and swimming have fees.) Colonial Williamsburg is minutes away.

The deal: The Suite & Breakfast Escape package includes a river-view suite (with a fireplace, patio, kitchen, in-room washer and dryer, and free wi-fi) plus daily breakfast in the Bray Dining Room, full access to the health club, and 30 percent off any spa service. The package starts at $219 a night for two and is valid for arrivals Sunday through Wednesday—a savings of 25 percent.

Unwinding by the Ocean

What’s special: North Carolina’s Outer Banks without the summer traffic? Hard to resist. This resort offers spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and Currituck Sound, offering a chance to see sunrises and sunsets over the water. Sanderling just underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation and now has new poolside guest rooms and a newly designed lobby with oceanfront views; the Lifesaving Station restaurant has fireplaces and an outdoor deck. You can walk on the beach, relax at the spa, and experience activities such as tennis, golf nearby, and seeing the wild horses of Corolla.

The deal: With the Fall Getaway Package, you can choose from a 50-minute spa treatment per person or one 50-minute couple’s treatment, or dinner or lunch for two at the Lifesaving Station. You’ll see plenty of wildlife, including wood storks, soaring hawks, deer, and alligators in lagoons.

The deal: The Fall Fling Package includes two nights at the nearby Hilton Garden Inn and three rounds of golf (two at Old South Golf Links and one at Hampton Hall) plus one breakfast or lunch per person at Old South.
