Splurge vs. Steal: Light Fixtures

Funky, multi-light fixtures have the reputation of belonging in teen bedrooms and college dorms. These two fixtures break the mold. Fun and stylish, they could add an arty touch to even the most straight-laced decor.

Splurge

Aptly named the Anemone, this light fixture has more than three dozen “tentacles,” each with its own light source. The quirky design and shiny bulbs give it a futuristic vibe. The Anemone, which is $495 at Urban Essentials in Northwest DC, can be installed as a ceiling flushmount or a sconce.

Steal

Those seeking a lower price (or fewer arms) will find a nice alternative in the Kryssbo ($49.99) at IKEA.  The wall sconce features five drooping halogen lights, making it look more like the branches of a willow tree than a sea creature.

IKEA has locations in College Park and Woodbridge.
