To recap: When owner and designer Yvette Freeman announced that she’d be closing her U Street furniture boutique, Foundry, back in October, the plan was to reopen in Northeast’s H Street corridor shortly after closing the original location in mid-November. A moving sale cleared out the U Street store. A sign went up on the new store. But then health issues delayed the opening until December . . . and then January . . . and then later still.
But as of Saturday, the Parisian-inspired decor-and-furniture boutique—which offers handpicked vintage gems and restored antiques alongside a curated selection of new items—is finally officially back in business, debuting in a 4,000-square-foot carriage-house showroom located in the Atlas Court Alley, a historic alleyway that runs between H and I Street. That’s more than double the size of the shop’s previous home.
So what’s in all that extra space? You’ll find a design center offering one-on-one consultations and guidance on custom pieces, additional display space for larger finds, and a selection of Freeman’s new James Dean-inspired vintage clothing line, dubbed Foundry Threads.
