Holiday cheer doesn’t just apply to humans. The Washington Animal Rescue League and participating stores’ Presents for Paws gift drive will collect pet food, toys, beds, and treats for cats and dogs whose owners need the league’s Pet Food Bank. Gifts can be dropped off at WARL’s shelter (71 Oglethorpe St., NW), the Big Bad Woof (117 Carroll St., NW; 202-667-0595), Doggie Style Bakery (1825 18th St., NW; 202-667-0595), Chateau-Animaux (524 Eighth St., SE; 202-544-8710), Green Pets (1722 14th St., NW; 202-896-7907), Pet Valu (11229-A New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring; 301-754-3690), and the Dog Shop (1625 Wisconsin Ave., NW; 202-337-3647) through December 23.

Thursday, December 17
The Adams Morgan bar Madam’s Organ will host a fundraiser happy hour to benefit Lucky Dog animal rescue. 5 to 11.

Saturday, December 19
Give a lucky dog a new life when K9 Lifesavers volunteers stop by Chateau-Animaux (524 Eighth St., SE; 202-544-8710) for an adoption event from noon to 2.

The Washington Humane Society will host an adoption event from 11 to 3 at the ProFeed Nutrition Center (5104 MacArthur Blvd., NW).

Sunday, December 20
The adoption events continue with the Washington Humane Society from 12:30 to 3 at Whole Foods’ Logan Circle location (1440 P St., NW), Lucky Dog Animal Rescue at the Rockville Petco from noon to 2, and Capital Cats, which will host an event at Chateaux-Animaux (524 Eighth St., SE) from noon to 3.

Julie Jones gets crafty when she returns to Chateaux-Animaux (524 Eighth St., SE; 202-544-8710) from 1 to 4 to make personalized paw-print ornaments with help from your four-legged friends. Bring Fido along for a one-of-a-kind gift. The ornaments are priced according to size and finish, and some of the proceeds go toward the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and YoKids.
