Listing We Love: The Former Heiner Contemporary Gallery

This mixed-use space combines the downstairs gallery and a two-level residential apartment.

Until January, this Book Hill townhouse, which dates to the early 1900s, acted as the light-filled home to the Heiner Contemporary art gallery. Namesake dealer Margaret Heiner bought the place in 2010 and painstakingly renovated it before opening her gallery in May 2011. Now, Heiner has relocated to Connecticut, and the place is up for grabs. It’s a unique mixed-use space: The hot-pink front door opens to a sleek ground-floor contemporary gallery space, complete with a rear glass wall that leads to an enclosed garden patio and features a galley-style kitchenette, a restroom, and an office with built-in shelving—also hot pink. Upstairs is two levels of private living space: a charming two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment that offers an open living and dining layout, a lofted top-level bedroom, and windows that overlook Wisconsin Avenue. The space is listed at $1.725 million. Check it out below, then head to Long & Foster for the complete tour.
