We love good deals, especially ones that take us outdoors. This week is National Park Week, which means that 394 national parks—including more than 100 that usually charge an entry fee—are opening their gates free of charge through Sunday. Participating local parks include Great Falls Park in Virginia, Shenandoah National Park, Prince William Forest Park, and C&O Canal National Historic Park.
Have kids in tow? Saturday is National Junior Ranger Day, and area parks are organizing lots of activities to celebrate. At Shenandoah, rangers will run organized hikes, wildlife talks, and a dress-up station where kids can don a uniform and pretend to be park rangers. Closer to home, Theodore Roosevelt Island is hosting story times and a kid-friendly scavenger hunt. And at the US Marine Corps War Memorial from 1 to 3, rangers will host a Junior Ranger Bootcamp, which includes a scavenger hunt and training activities.
