“Ape at the National Zoo” by Neil Greenberg of Rockville

“Earth Day Celebration” by Tina Clayton from Southern Maryland

Tina writes, “The photograph was taken during the Earth Day festivities in Leonardtown Square, Leonardtown, MD. I remember the maypole dance being done when I was in elementary school and hadn’t seen it in many years. A step back in time. A wonderful celebration with a small town feel. I love historic St. Mary’s County.”

“Slip, Slide’n Away” by Eric Jensen of Rockville

Eric writes, “I can still remember my first slip n’ slide almost 40 years ago. To be able to see my kids use and enjoy theirs the way I used to brings back a lot of great summer memories for me and, hopefully, creates a lot of great summer memories for them.”

“First Fair” by Kenny Bullock of Bristow

Kenny writes, “This picture was taken during the Prince William County Fair in August 2007. At that time, I was 43 years old, and believe or not, I’d never experienced going to a fair. Originally from East Orange, New Jersey, I was from the city and county fairs were unheard of. My wife spoke about attending county fairs growing up and I’ve never done such a thing. I decided to try last year and had a ball. The picture is of a ferris wheel right after sunset. Somewhere in there are my two kids. “

“Folklife Festival” by K.N.Vinod of Gaithersburg

The photographer writes, “This is Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuk of Bhutan in the nation’s capital with a bow and arrow.”

“Columbia Heights Metro” by Sanjay Suchak of Washington

Sanjay writes, “This shot was taken in the Columbia Heights Metro, one of the few
Metro stops in Northwest Washington not overrun with tourists in the summer. One of my summer memories was last summer working as an intern and taking the metro to and from work, often with the air conditioning not working, in a suit.”

“Fountains” by Elisabeth Koller of Silver Spring

Elisabeth writes, “The fun in the fountain is not just for kids.”

“Drum Circle” by Kristin Hughes of Arlington

Kristin writes, “This photo was taken at the Sunday afternoon Meridian Hill Park drum circle.”
