Things to Do

Where & When: This Week in Washington Nightlife

What to do every night of this week for fun.

Monday: Free Swedish Music
The House of Sweden continues being the coolest embassy in town by hosting a few of Sweden’s top musical acts—for free. Tonight, starting at 9 PM, Swedish songstresses Hello Saferide and Firefox AK will be performing. You must RSVP to rsvp-hos@foreign.ministry.se.

Tuesday: Horsing Around

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the Washington International Horse Show features 600 horses and riders competing for championship titles and $400,000 in prize money. It’s held at the Verizon Center, with events almost continuously throughout the day starting at 7 AM. Tickets for daytime events are $15 to $20 and evening events $20 to $40.

Wednesday: Beer and Pizza
Wednesdays, Pizzeria Paradiso in Georgetown boasts half price drafts and $4.25 pizzas. The exposed brick and wooden beams give the basement a ski-chalet feel. Sip one of Birreria Paradiso’s dark spiced stouts by the fire and imagine you’re just off the slopes in Switzerland. Build your beer repertoire by trying different drafts, which will change as the months progress.

Thursday: Art Power Hour
More museums are catching on to the idea of hosting happy hours to show off their exhibits to a young crowd. The Corcoran is hosting Thursday Power Hours through December 18 in celebration of its excellent “Richard Avedon: Portraits of Power” exhibit. The $25 happy hour runs from 5:30 to 7:30 and will get you two glasses of wine, snacks, and entrance to the exhibit. Not a bad deal, considering normal entrance would run you $14.
