Where & When: Fashion Edition

Another lovely week packed with fashion and shopping events. We’ve got a Pulitzer Prize winner giving a fashion lecture, tons of sales, a book signing, coat fittings, and even swimsuits.

Monday, December 8, through Monday, December 15: Coat designer Eleanor Duffy opened a boutique in the Nina McLemore store in Tysons Corner Center. This week, she’ll be available to help pick out your perfect style and will offer special fittings. Visit Eleanorduffy.com to check out the collection.

Tuesday, December 9: Bluemercury’s Bethesda and Georgetown locations will offer Champagne, snacks, and discounts from 4 to 10. Get 10 percent off purchases of $100 or more, 15 percent off $175 or more, and 20 percent off $250 or more.

Enjoy 50 percent off everything—from dresses to accessories—at the Old Town boutique Periwinkle during its holiday party from 10 to 8.

Thursday, December 11: Did you miss Tuesday’s Bluemercury festivities? Go to DC’s Dupont Circle location today for a similar event!

To complement the “Richard Avedon: Portraits of Power” exhibit, Robin Givhan—Pulitzer Prize-winning fashion editor for the Washington Post—will speak on the Corcoran stage about notions of power and identity as portrayed in fashion. Through designer inspiration, industry trends, and consumer choices, Givhan tackles the subject of fashion’s power to help people communicate and even sometimes mask their identities. The event is at 7 PM. Tickets ($18 for members, $22 for nonmembers) are available here.

From 6 to 9:30 PM, Uptown Girl Entertainment will host a Bubbles and Brows beauty and shopping event at Hotel Rouge. A VIP Shopper ticket for $27.50 includes a brow arching, a cocktail, and a shopping gift card. Regular admission is $17.50. Purchase tickets in advance at Bubblesandbrows.com.

Friday, December 12: Swing by Imagine Boutique in Gaithersburg from 11 to 6 for a Trina Turk holiday trunk show. Shop Turk’s holiday selections—dresses, skirts, and tops for the season—and get a free Trina Turk scarf with any purchase!

As a part of the Bethesda Row Open House, Urban Chic will host a book party with writer and New York City socialite Tatiana Boncompagni. She’ll sign her first novel, Gilding Lily, from 6:30 to 8:30. Cupcakes and Champagne will be served.

Saturday, December 13: Is it too early to think about swimsuits? Yes. But if you’ve got sand and sun on the brain, then stop by SyLene, where the French brand Eres will present its 2009 swimwear and lingerie collections from noon to 4. There’ll be a cappuccino bar and a chance to win a free Eres swimsuit.

The DC boutique Caramel hosts a Bailey handbags trunk show from 1 to 5. All Bailey handbags—created by Alexandria designer Lauren Bailey—will be 20 percent off, and selected Caramel merchandise will be 30 to 50 percent off. Check out the designs at Baileybag.com.

Saturday, December 13, and Sunday, December 14: Style & Image Network will host a designer sample sale, featuring more than 20 designers at up to 90 percent off. Nicole Miller, French Connection, and BCBG are just a few names to check out at this event, which will run from noon to 8 on Saturday and noon to 6 on Sunday. RSVP to sluanghy@sinpr.com.
