Restaurant Week fun, a summer cooking class, a wine fest, and more.

Monday August 24
Restaurant Week kicks off today! If you’re still deciding where to get your three courses for $35, we’ve got food critic Todd Kliman’s recommendations plus a ton of menus from the restaurants taking part.

Tuesday August 25
Join Barboursville Vineyard’s award-winning winemakers Luca Paschina and Daniele Tessaro at Clyde’s of Reston for wine samples and passed hors d’oeuvres. The event runs from 5 to 7, and the $20 ticket gets you five wines plus small plates of oysters, mini-crabcakes, pork tenderloin with peach salsa, and blackberry bars. Call 703-787-6601 for reservations.

Wednesday August 26
New York magazine dubbed appetizers “the new entrée” after reading Pamela Sheldon Johns’s 50 Great Appetizers cookbook. Learn her secrets at Arlington’s Sur la Table. She’ll demonstrate how to make hors d’ouevres such as Parmesan shells with mixed greens, white-bean-and-rosemary crostini, and marinated mussels. The class, which begins at 10:30, costs $69. Tickets are available here.

Thursday August 27
Georgetown’s Letelier Theater (3251 Prospect St., NW) is running a special work-in-progress screening of Cintia Cabib’s A Community of Gardeners. The documentary explores the social and nutritional impacts of seven Washington urban community gardens, and filmmaker Cabib will be on hand for a Q&A when the lights come up. Drinks and light local fare will be served at 6:30; the screening begins at 7:30. Tickets, $15, are available here.

Friday August 28
Downtown DC cooking school CulinAerie takes a creative approach to hot-weather eating in tonight’s “Summer in Baja” cooking class. Fish tacos with chipotle mayonnaise, jicama, and cucumber slaw as well as mojito sorbet—both perfect for outdoor dining—are on the menu. The class, $85 per person, begins at 7. Click here for tickets.

Saturday August 29
The Un-corked Wine & Music festival takes over Rockville Town Square from noon to 6 today. Learn how to make and properly taste wine at the demo stage, watch L’Academie de Cuisine’s Patrice Olivon work his cooking magic, and listen to three stages of notable local musicians. Free admission for concerts, wine seminars, and cooking demonstration; $10 to participate in winetastings (the first 2,000 paid attendees receive a commemorative wine glass). Click here for the festival’s complete schedule.

Sunday August 30
Get to know a DC foodie institution with a tour of the recently reopened Eastern Market. In this 90-minute walk-through, you’ll have the chance to talk to current vendors; taste specialties such as half-smokes, empanadas, and kimchee; and learn the historical importance of Washington’s oldest continuously running food market. The tour, $38, begins at 3:30. Meet near the Eastern Market Metro station. Tickets are available here.
