Sidewalk Style: Blazin’ Away

We stopped in at the boutique Treasury on DC’s 14th Street, Northwest, over the weekend—and walked out with a pair of long, buttery leather gloves. We also admired a shopper’s early-fall-weekend look.

Tia Thompson, 26
“I work for the government . . . blah!”

What she’s wearing:
Jacket and shoes from Treasury, shirt from Urban Outfitters, jeans from Guess, bracelet from a friend’s mother, who’s a European jeweler.

Where do you like to shop?
“I’m not into the mall at all—I’m into shops. I just moved here from being in the Peace Corps, I found this shop like three weeks ago, and I was like, ‘ahh!’ ”

How do you dress for work?
“I dress like the biggest bum for work. I wear sneakers and button-downs. I’m in a cubicle all day! I’m not gonna spend money on work clothes and cool clothes. If I had a different job and human contact . . . . ”

What are your style staples?
“I like jackets, I love leggings, I like shirts and jackets that come to here [hip-length]. I get leggings from Urban Outfitters usually, because they’re cheap. I like knee boots and funky bright-colored sneakers. Today I bought sweaters and this insane hat.”

What’s your favorite thing in your closet?
“I got these bright-colored jeans from Barcelona last year. It was funny because when I came here they got huge, but they were already huge over there. I don’t wear them a ton, but they’re awesome.”

Rachel says:
This early-fall-weekend look is relaxed but trendy all at once. And I love the simple silver bracelet—it’s a sharp accent that touches on the clean tailoring of the jacket.
