Ever dreamed of creating your own wine? Virginia’s Vint Hill Craft Winery, 45 minutes from DC, is selling the chance to micromanage the production of a barrel. Prices start at $6,000, or about $20 a bottle. The winery encourages friends to share the cost, a sort of enological timeshare.
A barrel can be bought anytime, but the action heats up in August in anticipation of the fall harvest. An enologist educates novice vintners on the selection of barrels, grapes, labels, and processing options. Web cams keep wine lovers in the loop.
