Travel News: Labor Day Weekend Edition

Need to get out of town fast? We have you covered.

Happy Labor Day weekend, Washingtonians! As usual, there are a bevy of last-minute deals available on the Web, some better than others. United has last-minute airfare deals from Dulles to Cincinnati, Knoxville, Pittsburgh, Orlando, and more for $63 to $76 each way. Flights depart Saturday or Sunday and return Tuesday or Wednesday. American Airlines has last-minute fares from Reagan and Dulles to Nashville, Santa Ana, Tucson, Dallas, and more for $103 to $174 each way.

Feel like driving? Budget has an amazing deal at its Reagan National location: Rent a compact car for seven days for only $149 (roughly $209 including taxes and fees but not including insurance). Compact cars include the four-door Ford Focus and similar models. The offer ends September 5, so act fast.

This week’s weather has had us longing for fall, but if you’re looking to prolong the summer, the Liaison Capitol Hill is extending its rooftop pool season through the end of September. Non-guests can take advantage of the facilities with the hotel’s Tone, Taste, and Tan package for $50: Start the day with a rooftop Vinyasa yoga class from 7:30 to 8:3, followed by breakfast at Art and Soul, and then catch some rays on the roof with an all-day pool pass. The Liaison is a block from Union Station.

Gamblers and lounge lizards, look out: We have two outstanding deals this week in both Vegas and Atlantic City. The Palms Las Vegas hotel is offering rooms Sunday through Thursday until December 29 for $89 a night, including a $90 daily resort credit. So you won’t have to worry if Lady Luck deserts you, because your room will literally pay for itself. The special also includes two VIP passes to the Playboy Club as well as two spa admission passes, and you can upgrade to a Fantasy Tower Room for just an additional $20 (usually $50).

To celebrate the premiere of Martin Scorsese’s new HBO show about the history of Atlantic City, Boardwalk Empire, Harrah’s Entertainment is offering 1,920 rooms for $19.20 a night from September 16 through September 30. Go to caesarsac.com to book. In conjunction with the hotel, 27 Atlantic City restaurants are also offering a prix fixe three-course dinner for $19.20.

And finally, if you’re a sucker for red trees come October, Budget Travel has some great ways to see them . . . by boat. Some of the best fall-foliage cruises happen on the East Coast, including trips in Casco Bay, on the Connecticut River, and even on the Hudson River’s Circle Line in New York City. Just don’t forget your camera.
