Where & When: What to Do Tonight

A new play and more fabulous FotoWeek events

As part of FotoWeek DC, the exhibit “Foto Baroque” by Victoria F. Gaitan and Cecilia Paredes opens tonight at Curator’s Office. The artists’ lush, almost grotesque, photographs are on display through January 2011. 6 to 8.

Or try Josh Cogan’s exhibit, “Time Given,” which explores people’s relationships to their limited time on Earth. The opening reception is at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue, and local DJ Fatback is providing the music. 6:30 to 9:30; register here. Free.

Civilian Art Projects is hosting Hey Photographers!, a public portfolio review and workshop for shutterbugs looking for their big break. Each participant can submit three images, which will be projected and critiqued by a panel of judges (including The Washingtonian’s photo editor, David Hicks). The top three will be published on the Web site you’re reading right now! Register ($25) here. The deadline for submission is 11 PM tonight, so hurry. The review is Saturday, November 13, from 3 to 6. For more information, click here.

Enjoy a sweet treat—without the calories—at the opening night of Superior Donuts, a comedy by Tracy Letts, who won a Pulitzer Prize for August: Osage County. It’s about an unusual friendship between a crotchety white shop owner and a black teenager who bond over literature. It’s at the Studio Theatre through December 18. Click here for tickets ($44 to $65).
