Known for teensy-weensy and quirky spots short on corporate shine, H Street enters a new era with the Wednesday debut of a 6,800-square-foot RedRocks, the fourth location of the pizza chainlet. (The other three are in South Arlington, Old Town Alexandria, and Columbia Heights). Spread across three floors, with three full bars, two wood-fired ovens, and a roof deck, the pizzeria/bar is the Atlas District’s largest venue yet. Also cool: A retractable roof allows for an open-air feel on all the floors in good weather.
Those familiar with the much smaller Columbia Heights restaurant may be surprised by the scope of the menu, which includes ample options in categories such as antipasti, meat and fish dishes, pastas, and a kid’s menu. Twenty tap lines will pour beer from breweries like Starr Hill, New Belgium, and DC Brau, along with Italian stalwart Peroni. Cocktail options include the Smoke & Mirrors—a Ketel One dirty martini served in a glass rinsed with Laphroaig Scotch. The new spot will also store a collection of bourbons, ryes, and Scotches to sip neat.
Happy hour features $1 off draft beers and select Italian wines and mixed drinks are $5. Food specials include $4 meatballs, $3 bruschetta, and cheese and
house-made charcuterie for $6.
An indoor-outdoor bar on the third floor offers access to a roof deck; the new mega-eatery seats 250 people and has a private space large enough to accommodate 100. Later this month, look for the debut of a
counter-service lunch option on weekdays.
