Luke’s Lobster Introduces Gluten-Free Option

A new roll option makes sandwiches safe for those who can’t stomach gluten.

Good news for the gluten intolerant: You can now have lobster rolls at Luke’s.

The chain of seafood shacks—which recently introduced a new market at its Georgetown location where you can buy whole lobsters—will begin offering sandwiches with rolls made from Better Bread, a company based in Saco, Maine, where the company sources its crustaceans.

Ben Conniff, vice president of Luke’s, cautions that those with severe gluten allergies should keep in mind that, given the restaurants’ tiny kitchens, there is no way to guarantee the sandwiches have not come in contact with the regular rolls. But at least those with an intolerance can now dig into a buttery seafood-salad sandwich. Conniff also says the sandwiches will have a $2 upcharge to reflect the price of the Better Bread roll.
