Just in time for Halloween, the gigantic candy shop It’Sugar opens in Gaithersburg on Monday. The international chain from the founders of Dylan’s Candy Bar debuts in the Washingtonian Center development, making it the second Washington branch after the Chinatown location.
The 2,351-square-foot confectionery stocks more than 1,000 kinds of sweets, from throwbacks like Pop Rocks and Sugar Babies to various gummies, chocolates, and a line inspired by Marilyn Monroe called “It’s me, Sugar!” Less trick-or-treat-friendly—but appropriate for a Halloween sugar orgy—is a collection of giant candies, including “the world’s largest” boxes of Nerds, SweeTarts, and Pop Rocks, a five-pound gummy bear, and a fruit-flavored “party python” that clocks in at eight feet and weighs more than a cocker spaniel. Also in the mix: novelty gifts such as lip balms scented like doughnuts or mac and cheese, apparel with candy logos, and more. Ever wanted a stick-on lip tattoo of candy dots? Here’s your chance.
