Michael Freedman spotted Katrina Barnette the moment she entered the room while out with mutual friends in Annapolis. “We kept catching each other’s eye across the crowd,” says Katrina, a merchandise manager. “Mike bought me a drink and we started talking; we hit it off.” So much so that exactly a year later, on their anniversary, Mike, a Marine Corps officer, proposed on the rooftop of Katrina’s building, overlooking the Washington Monument. A wedding at the Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg followed eight months later.
